Ram Jam Sport; Dyeing Light Collection
Daughter of a Shepherd is thrilled to once again collaborate with our dear friend, Julia Billings of Woollenflower on a collection of ten naturally dyed Ram Jam Sport colours which harmonise together and with the palette of undyed shades.
Five different dyes have been used across differing shades of Ram Jam Sport and in varying saturations. From top to bottom of main image:
Lucent 0 & 1 dyed with fresh nettle & bramble leaf
Golden Hour 0 & 1 dyed with fresh willow leaf
Shepherd's Delight 0A & 0B dyed with madder & cochineal
Equinox 1 & 2 dyed with cochineal
November Sky 1A, 1B, & 2 dyed with indigo

100% wool from mixed breeds
Sport weight
169 metres per 50g skein (185 yards per 3½ ounce skein)
3.25–3.5mm (US 3–4) needle or hook
24 sts over 10cm (4") on 3.5mm (US 6 / UK 10-9) needles
Cool hand wash only — lay flat to dry naturally
Sourced, scoured and spun in Yorkshire
This is the beginning of a long-term project between Daughter of a Shepherd and Woollenflower.

This yarn is dyed in small batches and because there is variation between batches we recommend for larger projects that you alternate skeins to minimise any noticeable difference. For multiple-skein orders we will do our very best to match skeins as closely as possible.

Some advice on working with and caring for your naturally dyed yarn
This Daughter of a Shepherd pure wool yarn has been thoughtfully hand-dyed by Woollenflower in Glasgow using fresh plant material collected all over Scotland, as well as sustainably-sourced dry dyestuffs and extracts. Achieved through the use of traditional, time-proven materials and methods, these shades resist fading but, like all natural dyes, may change and develop over time, a quality acknowledged and often valued by dye cultures around the world. Washing finished projects by hand and drying and storing them out of direct sunlight will help to maintain the purity and longevity of their colours.
Some natural dyes, such as indigo and logwood, may rub off onto your fingers as you work with them, however this should diminish after washing your finished project. All skeins are washed and rinsed carefully after dyeing but to be safe, avoid wearing pale colours under newly-finished projects dyed with these materials and, if combining light and dark shades in the same project, wash all skeins prior to knitting to avoid any bleeding of colour.
