Back in 2015 when John Arbon began spinning Hebridean yarn for me, little did I know it would take on a life of its own. The signature Daughter of a Shepherd Hebridean and Zwartbles blend created by John at the mill and now know as Heritage, soon developed an affectionate nickname which I discovered when unpacking a delivery. Drawn in thick black marker pen inside one of the boxes was a ‘Hebra Zebra’ and this is the one you see today on the label and badges accompanying our limited edition spin of Hebra Zebra yarn; John’s interpretation of this mystic beast.
John has taken 50% Daughter of a Shepherd Hebridean fibre - that's the Hebra, and 50% Exmoor Blueface fibre - that's the Zebra, conjured up some Arbon magic and worsted spun them together as an incredibly beautiful magic marl.
Hebra Zebra is a 4ply/fingering weight with 400 metres/437 yards over a 100g skein, and works up into a stunning modern marl fabric filled with light, texture, and drape. We can see it being used for everything from lace shawls to airy sweaters and simple layering pieces and can't wait to see what you do with it.
