Sassoun Belt kit
Designed by Irene Waggener, the stunning Sassoun Belt is knit in five shades of Ram Jam Sport; four from our naturally dyed Dyeing Light collaboration with Julia Billings plus a skein of Natural White.
With a seemingly woven appearance, the pattern is based on a 19th century sock motif spotted at the Folk Museum in Yerevan as Irene travels through Armenia learning more about its knitting traditions, history, culture, politics and language. The belt is knit in the round from tip-to-tip, fully reversible, and is a 'knit to fit' pattern so can be easily modified to suit any waist size.
The Original kit contains one each of the following shades and is priced so you receive the Natural White yarn free when compared to buying each skein separately:
November Sky 2
Golden Hour 1
We have now added a second option called Bright which uses the brighter mustard yellow of Golden Hour 0 in place of Golden Hour 1. Please choose from the drop-down menu.
The pattern, which includes a short essay about Sassoun where the sock originates, is not included and can be purchased from Ravelry.
If you have read Irene's first book, Keeper's of the Sheep about Morocco's High Atlas knitting traditions you will be excited to know a book about Armenian wool crafting is in the works.
