Lodestars Anthology

£12.00

Lodestars Anthology is an independent magazine-meets-journal for curious travellers who long to be inspired, see the world and meet interesting characters along the road. Focusing on one country per issue, Lodestars is a scrapbook of place, a magazine that goes deep into the heart of a location and uncovers its quirks, flavours and splendour, taking a truly personal, beautifully crafted and slow approach to the art of travel journalism.

With stunning photography, thoughtful and beautifully written stories, and original illustrations - produced in Bristol by a small independent press with an eye for detail and a love for print – Lodestars is a thing of beauty in its own right. You’ll probably want to keep it atop a coffee table, or perhaps fill it with scribblings and notes and stow it away in your travel bag for inspiration whilst on the road, or simply indulge in a spot of armchair travelling.

In recent issues Lodestars journalists and photographers have rambled up the Keele River by canoe; gone hawk-walking in the bonnie braes, found paradise on Lord Howe Island, been foraging at Daylesford, hitched a ride with ice-road truckers to Aklavik, and taken a turn around the garden with Antonio Carluccio . . . (We’ve) been for a dip in a lost lake, practiced the art of Fika in Stockholm, gone cattle-wrangling in the Kimberley, wandered Tuscan hills with saffron farmers, and much more besides.

We are thrilled to stock the latest issue all about Greece - Corfu is my personal favourite destination - and our friends at Farmers' Welsh Lavender feature in issue 14 Wales so you can read all about founder Nancy and her stunning farm. Scroll down for full content of each issue.

Issue 15 Greece: A magazine about Greece - a celebration of her myths, mountains and glittering seas. It contains glimpses of island life and odes to olives, and lashings of wildflowers, ruins, wilderness and awe. A place of gods and romance, Greece has always offered multitudes - so soak up these pages and allow yourself to fall under her spell.

Some locations featured: Zagori, Corfu (a personal favourite), Messolonghi, Mykonos, Santorini, Syros, Kefalonia, Simi, Athens, Pelion, Rhodes, Ikaria, Andros, Kasos, Crete, The Mani, Halkidiki Eleusis

Issue 14 Wales: An ode to Wales - a celebration of its soaring peaks and dazzling waters, its wilderness, song and lore. Venture here to walk in the footsteps of saints and ancient kings, and to explore landscapes - diverse, dramatic and sublime - destined to fill you with awe. You’ll cross paths with artists, poets and lavender farmers, feast on Welsh cakes and bara brith, wallow in the history, swim in the sea, hike hills, forage, revel and bask in the beauty. All the while knowing that here, there may well be dragons.

Issue 12 Switzerland: Splendid and suave, Switzerland - with its mountains, lakes and palatial hotels - is remarkably good for the soul. Steeped in history, Switzerland is both lavish and refined - chocolate-box perfection guaranteed to surprise. It is a playground, refuge and wonderland. A hideaway and delight. And amongst these pages are hints of all it has to offer. There are tales of intrigue and adventure, romance and the sublime - of towns where time is kept and paused, cantons that charm, literary escapades, wilderness, trains and alpine fare that is very fine indeed.

Issue 9 France: Within these pages you will find all things archetypically French, from snow-covered chalets, mighty châteaux and fromage, to every variety of grape-based liquids a connoisseur could desire. But you’ll also encounter the unexpected - food-inspired jaunts through the Pyrénées-Orientales, journeys across the Alps in the footsteps of literary giants and a coastal road trip that pays homage to the elegance of yesteryear.

This is a country of jasmine harvests, market splendour, Parisian decadence, fairy tale islands and adventure; a place to chase light and history and appreciate the marvels of terroir and creative daring. Full of the singular, serendipitous and spectacular, France, je t’aime.

Issue 7 Japan (Revisited): Journey to Japan and discover a land of tea and tropics, wabi-sabi and wonder. A place where symbolism abounds and nothing is without purpose. For here you’ll find an ancient and powerful landscape that has shaped history yet still dictates the rhythms of modern life. There are illuminated capitals and pockets of untouched wilderness, both marked by a deep sense of spirituality. Art flourishes, design inspires and others come first. May the light never dim on the Land of the Rising Sun.

This updated reissue contains a host of features from the original issue and a selection of new stories and artworks.

Issue 1 England (Reimagined): England ... it is sylvan, unpredictable, sublime, originative and contradictory - a land of eccentricity and ingenuity, a mix of worlds, practices and lifestyles all enriched and enlivened by an enthrallingly complex past.

Travel here and discover more than you thought possible - and that defining Englishness is a daunting task indeed. This is a magazine about forests, crags and drystone walls; about culinary daring, crumbling ruins and journeys into the wild. It is an ode to literary histories and a smuggling past, coastal towns and cultural capitals. Recalling long forgotten giants and lingering lore, this is our homage to England and the verve that makes it eternal.
