Our signature yarn spun from undyed black, non-superwash wool so it's as natural as the sheep intended it to be.

The overall colour is a complex and natural black with shifting colours of rich brown shot through with silver grey fibres. A soft handle produces knitted fabric with bounce, structure and a gentle halo. The yarn retains its original (and famous) signature scent of the fields, flock and new lambs in straw-filled barns.

For environmental reasons, and to preserve the natural lustre of the fibre, we do not scour after spinning so it is important to wash swatches to achieve an accurate gauge measurement prior to starting your project. You will notice some colouring of the water which are lanolin and oils releasing from the fibre.

Spun in Devon by John Arbon Textiles, the Grade 1 fine Hebridean fleece comes from a clip sourced in the North of England and is blended with Zwartbles fibre originating on Exmoor.
